Featuring mezzo-soprano Maya Sypert, choreography and dance by Pei-Ling Kao, and Tresemble, this theatrical program brings Pierrot’s strange moonlit world vividly to life.

    Feb 7, 2027, 4 PM • Palikū Theatre
  • Honolulu & Windward

Every piece has an architecture.

Crosscurrents moves through three distinct musical worlds: the luminous balance of Bach and Mozart, the fractured modernist energy of Hindemith, and the sleek French art-deco brilliance of Poulenc. Each work is built differently, with its own sense of proportion, motion, color, and surprise.

Classical elegance, modernist edge, and French sophistication meet in one vivid program for winds and piano.

Repertoire
BACH/arr. RECHTMAN: Concerto No. 2 “After Vivaldi” for Wind Quintet
MOZART: Quintet for Piano and Winds
HINDEMITH: Kleine Kammermusik, Op. 24 No. 2

  • Honolulu & Windward
  • Featuring violinist Jinjoo Cho & cellist Max Geissler with Galliard String Quartet

Two composers grappling with intimacy, vulnerability, and emotional transformation.

Brahms Sextet pairs Brahms’s First String Sextet with Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht, two deeply expressive works for expanded strings. Brahms’s Sextet has often been associated with the aftermath of his broken engagement to Agathe von Siebold, while Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht was inspired by a moonlit story of confession and forgiveness.

Together, the program unfolds with remarkable intimacy, tension, and emotional release.

BRAHMS: String Sextet No. 1 in B-flat major, Op. 18
SCHOENBERG: Verklärte Nacht
